The young culms have a white powder on there surface, giving them a blue-green appearance. The culms have minute dimples similar to P. viridis.

The culm wood is hard and dense and is stiffly erect. Culms are used in construction, furniture, pulpwood, handicrafts and splits for weaving.

Midseason shoots are edible.

I have over 20 species of bamboo, and the winter here in Tulsa (zone 6-7?) of 2013-2014 was brutal, had sub zero temps. This was one of the few that
did not suffer top kill (along with rubromarginata and bisetti). Looks like it would be a solid pick for zone 6 and higher.
