A bamboo that we imported from the EU in 2007. Native to Anhui and Zhejiang China. This is a small bamboo that tends to weep somewhat with fine foliage. Its an extremely attractive bamboo that will be a sure hit in the landscape. Dark green leaves contrast well against dark colored culms. References claim that this bamboo is conspecific with Ph. varioauriculata. However our varioauriculata is a totally different plant than this bamboo. Ph. varioauriculata grows very erect and upright whereas Ph. hispida is an attractive plant with with drooping culms and weeping foliage. A very rare plant in the US. |
