This form has the same shoot and wood qualities as the type, but it also has irregular green stripes on a yellow culm.

The leaves sometime have cream stripes as well. Very desirable ornamental.

This bamboo is a very drought tolerant species that will still attain a large size under extreme growing conditions and still look great.

Back in 2003 planted a one gallon pot some 30 miles south of Carbondale, IL. Zone 6b or 7a, depending on where on the hill you plant. This was planted
in the center of a circular drive, and has become a fantastic centerpiece. WOW. The bright yellow is extremely vivid. The culms are thick relative to
height. The green stripes are bold. This is one beautiful bamboo. Pruning out lower branches to reveal the culms really makes this a show piece. My
favorite, less issues with wind than vivax, and size is good. This clump at 9 years is averaging 20 to 30 ft, with no extra watering. Natural rainfall
only. I know with extra water and a manure compost for fertilizer the culms could get much bigger. Great bamboo if your summer is long enough to
mature the culms. I did try this in zone 5a, the results were not satisfactory but in zone 6b or warmer it is FANTASTIC. Most winters no damage at
all.
