A species from Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shaanxi China where it is used for various crafts including handles and struts for umbrellas, flag poles and novelty items.

The culms are also used to make bamboo sculptures. The shoots are bitter and not edible. New culms are covered in a white powdery bloom, aging to a yellow green color.
